Someday, I want to renovate this website. #
I’m using an off-the-shelf Hugo theme, Blowfish, which is great, because it works. The imperfect tool that exists is better than the perfect one that doesn’t. But my vision for this website is actually fairly different than what I have here now.
I am, for better and worse, deeply inspired by the ethos of the IndieWeb movement. I believe that there is value in personal, handcrafted websites, and in the blessedly imperfect nature of DIY, cobbled-together works. This website is mine, but it doesn’t really feel like me yet, nor does it do everything I’d want it to do.
Here’s an incomplete list of the things I want on my site:
- A running bookmarks log like Robb Knight’s Links section
- A centralized page map like Robb Knight’s Explore page
- Styled web feeds instead of bare XML (see Darek Kay’s post)
- A changelog section to list changes to the site
- A “reply by email” button beneath posts, like Annie Mueller has
- A subscribe page explaining how to follow, and likely explaining About Feeds (see Robb Knight, again—I just like what Robb is doing a lot!)
- More expressive default fonts
- Full post content in RSS feeds
- Microformats support (maybe)
- A design and layout I made myself
This is a someday page, an idea spearheaded by Alexander Sandberg.
