About Spencer
Hi. #
I’m Spencer Dub (he/they). I’m a human, at least the last I checked. I live in the beautiful Willamette Valley in Oregon with my wife and daughter.
By trade, I’m a therapist. I run a one-person counseling clinic, Prism Counseling, where I work one-on-one with adult clients to build loving compassion for themselves while also remaining ready to deal with the ups and downs of real life.
I also volunteer as part of Null Signal Games, where I currently work on the Visual team as Lead Brief Editor and the Narrative team as a Narrative Designer for my favorite card game in the world, Netrunner.
Here’s a few things to know about me:
Earnest authenticity is my jam. #
I am, as I’ll happily tell you, a big ol’ goof. I crack dad jokes and puns like it’s my highest calling; I [something], and I’m always striving to bring my honest, authentic self to the relationships that matter. Life’s too short to hide yourself in shadow, and I believe we forge strong communities by holding space for each other’s beautiful idiosyncrasies.
I consider myself a secular humanist; I believe that people and life on this earth matter, and it is imperative that we care for each other and the interconnected web of life now. As such, I’m deeply skeptical of both technocratic TESCREAL ideologies and salvation-focused classical religions.
I care about empowered local communities. #
In the United States in the 21st century, we are deeply alienated, isolated, and exploited. Decades of consumer capitalism, plus the late-capitalist turn to ubiquitous rent-seeking, have left so many of us with weak or nonexistent communities. We work more, afford less, and have scant few opportunities to connect to each other.
I want to live in a future where we take care of one another and share our abundances. I want relying on giant corporations to be our last choice, not our first one. This is why I self-host several web services for my family and friends, why I work toward community emergency preparedness, and why I participate in mutual aid activities like Radical Free Markets. We are stronger together than we are atomized and exploited.
